Stakeholders’ Perspectives for Taking Action to Prevent Abandoned, Lost, or Otherwise Discarded Fishing Gear in Gillnet Fisheries, Taiwan

Abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) and ghost are becoming increasingly severe, hurting marine ecology inspiring worldwide concern. The Global Ghost Gears Initiative (GGGI) is committed to building a best practice framework for the management of believes that proper systematic marking will help mitigate impacts ALDFG fishing. However, mandatory fishery management, without considering geographical characteristics each region, could lead confrontations between government industry. This study used ranking, analytic hierarchy process (AHP), interviews obtain opinions different groups regarding choices preferences stakeholders in assessed factors taking action prevent reduce harm caused by results show “B2, Informing counseling”, “P2, Fishing marking”, “P1, Regulation” had consensus were valued group. In contrast, “P3, Announcing location”, “R1, Equipment boat recovery”, “R5, Environmental label” not yet line with custom gillnet fisheries Taiwan. These can accelerate integration opinions, consider appropriate compromise solutions, coordinate ideas among implement reasonable efficient measures.
